Megan Norman named Wilson/MIAA Specialist of the Week

Overland Park, KS -- After setting a school record for digs in a match (48) and averaging 6.35 digs per game over the course of five matches, Megan Norman (Stockton, MO/Northeastern Ok. A&M) has been named the Wilson/MIAA Specialist of the Week as announced by the league office today.

Norman a 5-foot-5 senior from Stockton, Mo., was selected Most Valuable Player of the Quincy (Ill.) Nike/McDonald's Invitational last weekend, helping the Lions to their best start (8-1) since 1986.

She had a school-record 48 digs (fourth-most in MIAA history) in a 3-2 win over Northwood (Mich.) Friday (Sept. 1). She committed just two reception errors in 66 attempts and added an ace with four assists.  Norman had 28 digs with two assists and an ace with no reception errors in 29 tries in a 3-2 win over the host Hawks later that day.

On Saturday, she had 26 digs with two aces and an assist in the Lions' first loss of the season, a 3-1 setback against Missouri-St. Louis. Against Southwest Baptist, she had 15 digs and no reception errors in 20 tries.

Norman and the Lions open up conference play tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in Young Gym against Emporia State.
