FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Abilene, Texas -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team swept both matches today in the first day of the Abilene Christian Tournament, defeating both Angelo State and Lubbock Christian in three games each. Southern (11-1) opened up the day soundly defeating Angelo State by the scores of 30-18, 30-22 and 30-21. The Lions held ASU (1-8) to just a .043 hitting percentage in the match, while hitting .267 themselves. Ashley Mehrer (Kansas City, MO/Winnetonka HS) had a match-high 10 kills. Tessa Woods (Joplin, MO/Joplin HS) hit .417 for the match. Ashley Wright (Everton, MO/Miller HS) had nine kills and hit .533, while Megan Norman (Stockton, MO/NEO) had a match-high 13 digs. Sarah Joles (Blue Springs, MO/ Blue Springs HS) had 27 assists. Woods powered the Lions' attack in the match with Lubbock Christian, hitting .619 for the match with 14 kills. Southern won game one and two by the scores of 30-22 and 30-27, respectively. The Lions hit .424 as a team in game three, defeating LCU 30-15. Sarah Hoffmeister (Joplin, MO/Joplin HS) had nine kills and 11 digs, while Joles had 31 assists. Norman added 19 digs. Southern will be back in action tomorrow facing off with Abilene Christian and Ouachita Baptist.
