Lions run unbeaten streak to 18, with 3-0 win at Fort Hays

Hays, KS -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team got 11 kills and seven digs from Sarah Hoffmeister (Joplin, MO/Joplin HS) and defeated Fort Hays State in three games tonight to run its unbeaten streak to 18 games. The streak ties a school record set back in 2001.

Southern (14-1, 2-0 MIAA) won by the game scores of 30-26, 30-23, and 30-25. Neither team hit particularly well as the Lions hit .150 as a team, but limited the Tigers to just a .062 team attack average.

Hays (1-15, 0-3 MIAA) out dug (68-64) and had nearly twice as many blocks (8-5) than the Lions, but couldn't put away a win. The Tigers hit .104 in game one, and it got worse from there with .061 in game two and .021 in game three.

Megan Norman (Stockton, MO/NEO) had a match-high 26 digs, while Ashley Hill (Blue Springs, MO/Blue Springs HS) added 14 digs of her own. Ashley Wright (Everton, MO/Miller HS) had seven kills, while Tessa Woods (Joplin, MO/Joplin HS) and Cherie Baugh (Joplin, MO/Joplin HS) had eight and seven, respectfully.

The Lions will travel to Topeka, Kansas tomorrow for a first-place battle with MIAA West Division Co-Leader Washburn. The Lady Blues won in five Wednesday night at Pittsburg State and have won six matches in a row. Washburn, ranked eighth nationally, is 13-2 overall and 2-0 in the MIAA.
