FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Overland Park, KS -- After leading the Lions to a perfect 4-0 week, Missouri Southern senior Tessa Woods (Joplin, MO/Joplin HS) has been named the Wilson/MIAA Player of the Week as announced by the league today. Woods averaged 5.20 points per game and hit .455 (65 kills, 10 errors, 121 attempts) as the Lions climbed to 18-2 with four wins last week, including a pair in conference play. In a 3-1 home win over Pittsburg State Friday (Sept. 22), Woods hit .577 (17-2-26) and scored 20.5 points (17 kills, 7 block assists). She also added two digs. In a 3-2 win at Southwest Baptist Sept. 19, she scored 29 points (26 kills, 1 block solo, 4 block assists) and hit .396 (26-5-53) with six digs and three assists. On Saturday (Sept. 23), Woods hit .526 (11-1-19) and added five block assists for 13.5 points in a sweep of Harding (Ark.), then later in the day hit .391 (11-2-23) with an ace, a block solo and four block assists for 15 points in a sweep of Drury (Mo.). Woods and the Lions will be back in action on Wednesday, September 27 when they play host to Northwest Missouri State at 7 p.m. in Young Gym.
