Lions take out Missouri Western in three

St. Joseph, MO -- A day after getting swept by second ranked Truman State, the Missouri Southern volleyball team swept past Missouri Western today in three games. Individual game scores were 31-29, 30-25 and 30-26.

Southern (20-5, 6-3 MIAA) won its 20th match today, the first time since 1996 when the Lions went 20-11. After going to extra points in game one, Southern put the Griffons away in games two and three, limiting Western to just a .090 hitting percentage for the match.

Western (11-10, 3-6 MIAA) had ten kills each from Alyssa Berg, Melissa Malone and Hallie Delagardelle.

Tessa Woods (Joplin, MO/Joplin HS) had 12 kills and hit .450 in the match. Ashley Wright (Everton, MO/Miller HS) had 10 kills, while Cherie Baugh (Joplin, MO/Joplin HS) had nine kills, no errors and hit .692 for the match. Sarah Joles (Blue Springs, MO/Blue Springs South HS) and Erin Mitchem (Spokane, MO/Spokane HS) had 25 and 19 assists, respectively. Megan Norman (Stockton, MO/Stockton HS) had a game high 17 digs. Ashley Hill (Blue Springs, MO/Blue Springs HS) and Sarah Hoffmeister (Joplin, MO/Joplin HS) had 11 and 10 digs. Ashley Mehrer (Kansas City, MO/Winnetonka HS) had eight kills and eight blocks.

Southern had 11 team blocks and five service aces.

The Lions will be back in action this Tuesday, October 10 when they travel to Emporia State for a 7 p.m. match.
