FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Emporia, KS -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team hit just .103 over three games and fell at Emporia State tonight, three games to none. Individual game scores were 30-25, 30-27, and 30-19. Southern (20-6, 6-4 MIAA) led16-15 in game one, but two straight points from Emporia gave the Hornets a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Both teams traded the lead for the first 18 points of game two, but Emporia went ahead 19-18 and led from then on. The Lions went ahead 9-5 in game three on a kill from Cherie Baugh (Joplin, MO/Joplin HS) forcing an Emporia timeout. The Hornets (11-12, 5-5 MIAA) tied the match at 10 and went on a 20-9 run to end the match. Mandy Chustkoff had 14 kills and Kayla Nolte had 26 assists. Ashley Mehrer (Kansas City, MO/Winetonka HS) had nine kills and hit .333 over the match. Sarah Hoffmeister (Joplin, MO/Joplin HS) had nine kills and 17 digs, while Megan Norman (Stockton, MO/Stockton HS) had a team-high 18 digs. Sarah Joles (Blue Springs, MO/Blue Springs South HS) had 17 assists, while Erin Mitchem (Spokane, MO/Spokane HS) had 14 assists and 10 digs. Ashley Hill had 12 digs. The Lions will now travel to Arkadelphia, Ark. this weekend to take part in the Henderson State Tournament. They will face off with 19th ranked North Alabama and Arkansas Monticello on day one and take on Alabama-Huntsville and Arkansas Tech on day two. |
