Tessa Woods named first-team All-MIAA, Norman/Mehrer named honorable mention

Overland Park, Kan. -- Senior hitter Tessa Woods (Joplin, MO/Joplin HS) has been named first team All-MIAA as voted on by the coaches of the league. Megan Norman (Stockton, MO/Stockton HS) and Ashley Mehrer (Kansas City, MO/Winnetonka HS) were named to the honorable mention team.

Woods, a 6-3 senior transfer from Missouri State led the MIAA in hitting percentage at .361. She ranks 18th in Division II in hitting percentage and her 106 block assists this season ranks third all time. She helped the team to break the school record for blocks in a season. Woods was also a two time MIAA hitter of the week this year and owns a 3.78 GPA in Biochemistry and Spanish.

Norman, a 5-7 libero, makes her second appearance on the All-MIAA squad and has cemented her name into the Southern record books in just two years as a Lion. Her 712 digs this season broke the previous school record of 600 and her 1,293 in just two years, ranks sixth all-time. Her 5.98 digs per game this year set another school record, and ranks her third in the MIAA. Norman was the MIAA Specialist of the Week earlier this year and owns a 3.52 GPA in Business.

Mehrer, a 6-1 middle hitter, is on her third-straight All-MIAA team. Mehrer leads the team and is fifth in the MIAA in blocks per game this year. She is the all-time leader with 304 block assists in her four-year career and ranks fourth all-time in total blocks with 391 and tenth with 87 solo blocks. Her 113 block assists this season is most all-time in one season and she helped the team set a school record for blocks in a yeah. A three-time MIAA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, Mehrer has a 3.28 GPA in Public Relations. 

The Lions will continue their post season run as they take on Central Missouri in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this Thursday at noon.
