FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joplin, Mo. -- Tessa Woods (Joplin, MO) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-South Central Region team today. The coaches within the region, comprised of schools in the MIAA, the Gulf South Conference and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, vote on the team. Woods, a 6-3 senior out of Joplin High School, led the MIAA this year in attack average, hitting at a .361 clip. She finished among the league leaders in points (4.16), hitting (.361) and kills (3.63). She was twice named the MIAA Hitter of the Week and was a first-team selection to the All-MIAA team. Woods, a transfer from Division I Missouri State, helped make up a team that set the school record for blocks in a season and she was one of three Lions (Ashley Mehrer and Ashley Wright) that all broke the individual record for block assists in a season. Woods had 106 block assists, 120 total. She had 111 digs and helped the Lions to a 23-12 record, the second most since moving to NCAA Division II, as well as a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
