Southern Defeats Arkansas Tech In Five Games

Russellville, Ark.  -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team came from behind tonight and defeated Arkansas Tech on the road, three games to two. Individual game scores were 30-25, 19-30, 17-30, 30-28, and 15-13.

The Lions got down early in game one, trailing 6-3, but tied the game at nine. Both teams jockeyed for the lead before the Lions took a 20-19 advantage on a kill from Jeanna Feldman and would hold the lead, winning 30-25.

The next two games would be all Tech as the Golden Suns hit .295 and .382 as a team and limited the Lions to .111 and .031 attack averages.

The Lions went down 21-15 in game four, but rebounded to tie the game at 24 and go ahead on an ace from Sarah Joles, 25-24. The game would again be tied at 28, but two straight Southern points gave the Lions the win and tied the match.

Southern again played catch up in game five, trailing 8-5 at the turn and another Tech point forced an MSSU timeout. The Lions would eventually tie the game at 12 and 13, before back-to-back kills from Feldman and Sarah Hoffmeister gave Southern the match.

Hoffmeister led the Lions with 13 kills and 15 digs, but it was at the net where Southern won the match. The team had nine blocks, including five from Feldman. The freshman added nine kills and ten digs. Ashley Wright had 11 kills while Joles and Erin Mitchem had 30 and 19 digs, respectively. Ashlee Russell had eight kills and 10 digs.

The Lions will next travel to Denton, Texas where they will compete in the Texas Woman's University Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
