Lions drop Henderson State, but fall to Harding

Searcy, Ark. -- The Missouri Southern Volleyball team swept Henderson State three games to none, but fell to host Harding today by the identical 3-0 score in the final day of the Harding Invitational.

Southern (9-4) opened up the day dominating Henderson State (6-2), defeating the Lady Reddies 30-19, 30-23 and 30-28. The Lions hit .467 as a team in game one with 16 kills and only two errors.

Sarah Hoffmeister had 12 kills and 11 digs in the win, while Sarah Joles added 27 assists and six service aces. Ashlee Russell and Ashley Wright had 11 and 10 kills, respectively in the match.

The Lions, however, ran into a force in match two as Harding's (9-3) Manuela Nesheva had a career-high 35 kills in a three game match. Southern lost to the Lady Bisons by the individual game scores of 23-30, 22-30, 25-30.

Russell had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. Hoffmeister added 12 kills and Joles raked in 35 assists.

Southern went 3-1 at the tournament and will now jump into MIAA play traveling to Emporia State on Wednesday, September 12 for a 7 pm match.
