Box Score Southern (10-7, 1-3 MIAA) ended a four game losing streak with the come-from behind win. After dropping game one, the Lions jumped out to a 3-1 lead in game two. The Lady Tigers, however, answered with seven of the next nine points to go ahead 9-5. The game would be tied at 18, 20 and 21, before two straight attack errors from Fort Hays gave the Lions a two point lead. The Lions would finish the game 30-25 on a kill from Ashlee Russell. Southern won the next two games in convincing fashion to win its tenth match of the season. The Lions were led by Hoffmeister's double-double. She hit .262 in the match. Sarah Joles had 61 assists, while Kari Hammerbacher set her second school record of the season with 38 digs in a four game match. Ashley Wright and Cherie Baugh had 12 and 13 kills, respectively, while Jeanna Feldman and Amy Barnicle had 17 and 13 digs, respectively. Russell finished with 12 kills. Hoffmeister also became a member of the 1,000 kill/1,000 dig club in the match. Southern will be back in action tomorrow when the Lions face off with seventh ranked Washburn in Topeka at 6 pm. |
