Lions drop four game set at Northwest Missouri

Box Score

Maryville, Mo. --
The Missouri Southern volleyball team ran into a hot hitting Northwest Missouri State squad tonight, dropping a four-game match to the Bearcats three games to one. Individual game scores were 30-16, 28-30, 30-21 and 30-27.

Southern (10-11, 1-7 MIAA) hit just .022 as a team in game one. The Lions struggled to get any offensive rhythm and Northwest hit .324 for the game one win. MSSU got it back together in game two and led wire-to-wire the entire game to even the match at one.

Northwest (12-11, 3-3 MIAA) was on fire in game three, however, hitting .475 as a team with 22 kills and just three errors. Southern scored the game's first three points and led 14-9 at one point forcing a Bearcat timeout. Northwest took the lead at 19-18, though and never looked back.

The Lions jumped out to another 3-0 lead in game four and led 22-20 late, but Northwest took the lead for good at 26-25.

Cherie Baugh led the Lions offensive attack with 18 kills, hitting .361 for the match. Ashlee Russell had 17 kills, while Kari Hammerbacher and Sarah Hoffmeister had 16 and 15 digs, respectively. Sarah Joles had 52 assists and eight digs.

The Lions will be back in action this weekend traveling to the Southwestern Oklahoma State University tournament.
