Lions fall in five games to Cameron in final match at SWOSU Tournament

Weatherford, Okla. -- Despite a 22 kill, 30 dig performance from Sarah Hoffmeister, the Missouri Southern volleyball team fell in five games today to Cameron University in the final match at the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Tournament. Individual game scores 30-27, 21-30, 28-30, 30-32 and 15-13.

Southern (12-12) hit .178 as a team in the match. Hoffmeister was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Lions and Cameron (8-11) traded games through the first four sets leading into the deciding fifth game. The Lions jumped out to a 5-2 lead, and led 8-7 at the turn. The game was tied at eight and again at 13, before Cameron scored two straight points to secure the match.

Erin Mitchem had 50 assists and 19 digs, while Ashlee Russell added 16 kills and 15 digs. Cherie Baugh had 13 kills, while Ashley Hill and Jeanna Feldman had 21 and 11 digs, respectively.

The Lions will get back into MIAA play this week when they play host to sixth ranked Truman State on Thursday, October 11 at 7 pm in Young Gymnasium.
