Lions fall at home to sixth ranked Truman State, 3-0

The Missouri Southern volleyball team fell in three games tonight to sixth ranked Truman State University. Individual game scores were 30-26, 30-23 and 30-24.

Southern (12-13, 1-8 MIAA) started game one well, leading 6-2. The Lions led again at 14-10, before a 5-1 run from Truman tied the score at 15. From that point on the Bulldogs went on a 15-9 run to end game one.

Truman (22-4, 6-1 MIAA) hit .243 in game one but eight errors for the Lions limited Southern to just a .033 attack average.

The Lions again started game two with an advantage, leading 4-1 to start the game. The game was tied at seven, before three straight points gave Southern a 10-7 lead. The game was tied again at 19, before Truman reeled off an 11-3 run to end the game.

Game three was tied three times and had two lead changes before Truman used a 6-4 run to end the match.

Southern was led by Ashley Wright. The senior had nine kills and two blocks, while hitting .529 for the match. Sarah Hoffmeister had nine kills and nine digs, while Sarah Joles had 35 assists. Kari Hammerbacher had a match high 12 digs.

Southern will be back in action this Saturday night at 6 pm when the Lions play host to West Florida in Young Gymnasium.
