Lions defeat Southeastern Oklahoma State three games to one

The Missouri Southern volleyball team defeated visiting Southeastern Oklahoma State University three games to one today at Young Gymnasium. Individual game scores were 30-17, 28-30, 30-24 and 30-19.

Southern (14-14) hit .475 in game one en route to a .277 attack average for the match. The Lions would drop game two to the Savage Storm, but rebounded to win the final two games convincingly.

SOSU (6-17) took advantage of 11 Lions errors in the second game to pick up their only win of the day.

Southern's defense kicked in and limited the Savage Storm to attack averages of .067 and .023 in the final two games as the Lions picked up 14 blocks on the day led by eight each from Ashley Wright and Ashlee Russell.

Russell led the Lions today and was just one dig and two blocks from her first career triple-double. She had 16 kills, nine digs and eight blocks, while hitting .378. Wright hit .458 with 13 kills and eight blocks. Sarah Hoffmeister had 13 kills and 14 digs. Sarah Joles and Erin Mitchem had 31 and 27 assists, respectively, while Kari Hammerbacher had a match high 25 digs. Ashley Hill had 14 digs.

The Lions will now step back into MIAA action this week, playing host to Fort Hays State on Friday, October 26, before taking on fifth ranked Washburn for senior day on Saturday, October 27.
