Lions lose regular season finale at 18th ranked Pitt State, 3-0

Pittsburg, Kansas. --
Eighteenth ranked Pittsburg State hit .352 as a team tonight and defeated the Missouri Southern volleyball team, three games to none. Individual game scores were 30-25, 30-27 and 30-27.

Southern (15-16, 2-11 MIAA) will now have to wait for the outcome of the Pittsburg State - Fort Hays State match played this Saturday in Hays to see if the team will play in the MIAA Tournament. A loss from Fort Hays and the Lions move on. A win by the Lady Tigers and Southern's season comes to an end.

The Lions fell behind early in game one, 5-2, but rallied to tie the game at 11 and again at 12. They got as close as 16-15, but couldn't close the gap.

PSU (25-7, 7-5  MIAA) opened up a 5-2 lead again in game two and wouldn't trail in the set. The Lions led four different times in game three bout couldn't keep control of the match.

Sarah Hoffeister had 13 kills and nine digs, hitting .400 in the match. Ashlee Russell had 10 kills, while Sarah Joles had a match high 41 assists. Kari Hammerbacher had 12 digs.

The Gorillas were led by 18 kills and 11 digs from Pamela Cartagena. She was one of four gorillas to hit .400 or over in the match.

Southern will now wait for the outcome of the Hays - PSU match later in the week to determine their MIAA Tournament fate.
