Lions fall at home to 11th ranked Truman, 3-0

Joplin, Mo. --  The Missouri Southern volleyball team hung in with 11th ranked Truman State University tonight, but eventually fell to the Bulldogs, 3-0 at Young Gymnasium in Joplin. Individual set scores were 25-21, 25-20 and 25-15.

Southern (4-9, 0-4 MIAA) out hit Truman in the first set, but with the Lions up 19-18, the Bulldogs used a 7-2 run to win the set.

Truman (13-4, 4-1 MIAA) fell behind again in the second set as the Lions opened up a 5-2 lead early on. The Bulldogs responded and tied the set at 10 on a kill from Allie Cherven. Another kill from Cherven gave TSU a lead and both teams traded points until the set was tied again at 18. A kill from Cherven again broke the tie and the Bulldogs used another 7-2 run to win the second set.

The Bulldogs scored five of the first six points and later led 17-7 in the third set, eventually winning 25-15.

Sarah Joles and Elin Skei had 16 and 15 assists, respectively, while Ashlee Russell had eight kills and hit .333.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they play host to Missouri Western at 2 pm in Young Gymnasium.
