Lions serve themselves past Abilene Christian, 3-1

--  The Missouri Southern volleyball team had 13 service aces and just one error tonight, as the Lions served their way to a three to one win over visiting Abilene Christian. Individual set scores were 25-21, 25-21, 14-25 and 25-18.

Southern (6-9) opened up a 5-1 lead in the first set after a kill from Jeanna Feldman, however a kill from ACU's (13-5) Erin Curry, tied the set at 11. Southern went back ahead on the next point after a kill from Kara Robeson and never trailed again in the set.

The Lions started strong again in the second set as a kill from Feldman made the score 3-1, but ACU tied the set again at four on a kill from Jennie Hutt. The set would be tied eight times and the Wildcats led 10-8 at one point, but Southern took the lead for good on a kill from Brittany Vavao-Huggins to make the score 12-11.

The third set was all ACU. The Wildcats limited the Lions to a .037 attack percentage and had four of their eight blocks in the set alone cruising to the easy win.

Both teams traded points early on in the fourth set as the lead changed hands four times and there were seven ties. Southern took a 12-11 lead on an ace from Amelia Judge and never trailed going on a 13-7 run to end the match.

Feldman had a game-high 17 kills to go with 17 digs and four aces. Sarah Joles had 32 assists, while Ashlee Russell hit .355 with 11 kills. Kari Hammerbacher had 21 digs, while Elin Skei added 13 assists.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow morning as they take on third ranked West Texas A&M at 10 am and Angelo State at 2 pm. Both matches, as well as tonight's are part of the Pittsburg State Invitational and tomorrow's matches will be played in Pittsburg, Kansas.
