Lions come from behind and defeat Western in five

-- The Missouri Southern volleyball team went down two sets to none today at Missouri Western, but rallied and defeated the Griffons, 3-2 in St. Joseph. Individual set scores were 22-25, 21-25, 25-14, 25-23 and 15-11.

Southern (8-18, 3-12 MIAA) hit just .121 and .119 in the first two sets, but rebounded to hit .391 in the third set and defeated the Griffons soundly.

Western (4-28, 1-15 MIAA) and the Lions had nine tied scores and six lead changes early in the fourth set, but the Lions went ahead 14-13 on a kill from Jeanna Feldman and never looked back.

Southern led 8-6 at the turn of the fifth set and finished the match off with a kill from Ashley Hill.

Hill led the Lions' comeback today with 14 kills and 23 digs. Kara Robeson was on fire with 13 kills of her own, hitting .458 in the match. Elin Skei and Sarah Joles had 28 and 21 assists, respectively, while Kari Hammerbacher added 15 digs. Amelia Judge had eight blocks, helping the Lions to 15 team blocks in the match.

The Lions will be back in action this Tuesday, November 4 when they travel to Topeka to take on Washburn at 7 pm.
