Lions dominant in four set win over Fort Hays

-- Ashley Hill had 14 kills and 18 digs, while hitting .312 and the Missouri Southern volleyball team defeated visiting Fort Hays State tonight three sets to one. Individual set scores were 25-20, 22-25, 25-12 and 25-23.

Southern (9-20, 4-13 MIAA) held an advantage in every single statistical category tonight against the Lady Tigers.

FHSU (9-22, 2-15 MIAA) came from behind and won the second set, but couldn't match the Lions in the final two.

Southern went ahead (11-10) on a kill from Hill in the first set and never trailed from that point on. The Lions 17-14 at one point in the second set, before the Lady Tigers tied it up at 17 on a kill from Alissa Tonniges, but Southern would move ahead again and take a 19-17 lead after a kill from Kara Robeson forced a FHSU timeout. The Lions led 21-19, but the Lady Tigers went on a 6-1 run to end the set.

Southern hit .577 in the third set and led from the 4-3 mark after a kill from Hill. The Lions would lead from the opening serve in the fourth and final set to take the match.

Hill led the Lions' attack tonight to pick up her fifth double-double of the season. Elin Skei and Sarah Joles had 22 and 19 assists, respectively as Kari Hammerbacher picked up 17 digs.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow evening as they play host to fifth ranked Emporia State at 6 pm in Young Gym.
