Lions hang tough but fall at 13th ranked Pitt State

-- The Missouri Southern volleyball team won the first set tonight at Pittsburg State, but the Gorillas hit .500 in set two and came from behind to defeat the Lions, 3-1 tonight in front of more than 900 fans at John Lance Arena. Individual set scores were 19-25, 25-12, 25-23 and 25-20.

Southern (9-22, 4-15 MIAA) went ahead 10-9 on a kill from Ashlee Russell and had as big as a four point lead in the set, the first off a kill from Russell, the second off a kill from Sarah Joles.

The second set was tied at eight after a kill from the Gorillas (27-7, 13-6) Klaudia Groleska. From that point, Pitt went on a 17-4 run to end the set. The Lions dropped the next two sets as Pitt hit .268 as a team.

Ashley Hill had 11 kills and 17 digs, while Elin Skei and Sara Joles had 23 and 20 assists, respectively. Joles added 13 digs for a double-double.

The Lions will be back in action this Friday night at 7 pm, playing host to senior night and the Southwest Baptist Bearcats in Young Gym.
