Lions finish MIAA road swing with 3-2 win at Missouri Western

St. Joseph, Mo. -- Jeanna Feldmann had her second-straight 20-kill performance as the Missouri Southern volleyball team took out Missouri Western three games to two after dropping the first two sets to the Griffons. Individual set scores were 19-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18 and 15-6.

Southern (7-6, 2-3 MIAA) fell behind early as the Griffons (7-11, 0-6 MIAA) hit .360 in the first set and won a squeaker in set number two. It was then that the Lions took over, winning the third set as Southern tied the set at 18 and scored seven of the next ten points to win the set.

The Lions took the third set convincingly 25-18, trailing only once and led from the opening whistle in the fifth and final set, hitting an impressive .500 as a team.

Feldmann had 21 kills and hit .326 to lead the Lions' offensive attack. She added 12 digs and a block. Ashlee Russell and Brittany Vavao-Huggins had 11 and 10 kills, respectively, as Russell added 12 digs for a double-double. Elin Skei had a match-high 53 assists, while Kari Hammerbacher had a match-high 18 digs.

The Lions had nine team blocks and hit .247 as a team.

Southern will be back in action next weekend as the Lions travel to Pittsburg to compete in the Pittsburg State Classic on Friday and Saturday.
