Lions sweep Fort Hays State 3-0

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team hit .300 as a team and got 11 kills and eight digs from Jeanna Feldman en route to a three sets to none sweep of visiting Fort Hays State today at Young Gymnasium in Joplin.

Southern (10-9, 3-3 MIAA) never trailed in the first set and despite six lead changes in the second set, only trailed once in the third in the straight set win.

Fort Hays (5-15, 1-6 MIAA) was led by Brazilian Lilian Rezende with nine kills and seven digs. Lydia Karnopp, Makayla McPhail, and Brandi Bertrand had six digs each.

Feldmann led a Lions' squad that hit .300 and out-preformed the Tigers in every offensive and defensive category. Brittany Vavao Huggins added eight kills a dig and three blocks, while hitting .312 in the match. Freshmen Renee Rheinecker and Amber Heiskell had seven and six kills, respectively, while sophomore Maria Weller added six kills of her own. Elin Skei dished out 33 assists and Ali Boehler had a team-high ten digs.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, playing host to eighth ranked Emporia State at 2 pm in Young Gymnasium.
