FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Maryville, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team traded sets with Northwest Missouri today, but the Bearcats came away with the decisive fifth set win to take the match, three sets to two. Individual set scores were 20-25, 27-25, 18-25, 25-19, and 8-15. Southern (10-13, 3-7 MIAA) was led offensively by redshirt freshman Amber Heiskell with 12 kills and hit .364. Maria Weller had 11 kills and Jeanna Feldmann added 10 kills and eight digs. Elin Skei dished out 51 assists and added ten digs, while Kari Hammerbacher had a team-high 11 digs. Northwest (11-15, 2-8 MIAA) had four players with double-figures, led by 16 from Kelsey Larson. Alex Hanna added 15 kills, while Ashley Mitchell and Sara Falcone had 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Southern hit .241 as a team and hit .421 and .394 in the two sets the team won, but hit just .158, .069 and .050. The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday, October 20 when the Lions travel to Rockhurst for a 7 pm match. |
