FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Joplin, Mo. -- In a match that saw 17 tied scores and ten lead changes, the Missouri Southern volleyball team lost to 18th ranked Truman State, three sets to none tonight. Individual set scores were 23-25, 21-25, 25-27. Southern (11-16, 4-9 MIAA) had ten kills from both Jeanna Feldmann and Renee Rheinecker in the match. Truman (22-9, 10-5 MIAA) was led by Megan Sharpe with ten kills and a .529 attack average. Elin Skei had 33 assists, while Ali Boehler and Kari Hammerbacher had nine digs each. The Lions and Truman traded points throughout the first set, and Southern took a 20-19 lead late forcing a Truman timeout. Out of the timeout, Truman scored two quick points, before the Lions answered back with of their own and took a 22-21 lead. From that point, however, Truman scored four of the final five points to take the opening set. Southern opened the second set on a 7-4 run and forced a Truman timeout. The Lions led 14-11 after a kill from Amber Heiskell and 18-13 after a kill from Rheinecker. But the Bulldogs went on a 4-1 run and brought the score to 19-17, forcing a Lions timeout. Truman kept it up and extended the run to 9-3 and led 22-21, forcing another Lions timeout and ended the set on a 12-3 run. The third set had two tied scores, but Truman never trailed and despite the Lions trailing late and forcing extra points, closed out the match. Southern will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when the Lions play host to Missouri Western at 2 pm in Young Gym. |
