Rheinecker powers Lions past Missouri Western, 3-0

Joplin, Mo. -- Renee Rheinecker had 18 kills and Brittany Vavao-Huggins had 11 as the Missouri Southern volleyball team swept visiting Missouri Western today in Joplin. Individual set scores were 25-23, 25-19, and 25-22.

Southern (12-16, 5-9 MIAA) trailed just five times in the match as the Lions hit .302 as a team led by Vavao-Huggins' .667 performance Rheinecker hit .519 in the match. Jeanna Feldman had nine kills and four kills and four blocks, while Elin Skei dished out 43 assists. Ali Boehler and Kari Hammerbacher had a match-high eight digs.

Western (9-20, 2-14 MIAA) hit .312 as a team in the first set, but hit just .250 in set two and only .108 in the finale.

The match had 18 tied scores and five lead changes in the match. The Lions had five service aces and led the Griffons in kills, average, aces, digs and blocks.

The Lions will be back in action on November 6 when they play host to sixth ranked Washburn at 7 pm in Young Gym.
