qualifier at the Baymont Inn/Fazolis Open Invite Joplin, Mo. -- Both Jessica Selby-Tallman and Jacob Williams automatically qualified today in their respective events in the final day of the 2008 Baymont Inn/Fazolis Open Invitational. Williams hit 16 feet, six inches (5.03m) to automatically qualify in the pole vault. It is also the top height in division II this year. He finished third in the event, but was the top collegiate performer. Russell Ellis was fifth at 16 feet, two inches, while Seager Wilson finished ninth at 15 feet, six and a quarter inches. Both Ellis and Wilson's vaults were provisional qualifiers. Corey Schumate and Phillip Horn were 14th and 16th. Corey Reynolds took home first place in the high jump with a NCAA provisional height of six feet, nine and a half inches (2.07m). That height is the third best in the NCAA this season. Phillip Horn was fourth at six feet, one and a half inches. Adam Sims and Eric Bearden finished fifth and sixth in the shot put with Sims throwing 45 feet, nine inches and Bearden tossing a distance of 45 feet seven and a quarter. Jordan Patton and Jeremiah Jones both made the finals of the 60m dash, with Patton finishing third (7.04) and Jones sixth (7.18). Kevin Wright was fifth in the 600 yard run (1:16.53), while Andrew Wright finished fourth in the 400m with a time of 51.90. Anthony Reed was seventh in the 5k, while the men's 4x400 relay team finished fourth with a time of 3:32.23. Already qualified in the shot put with her first meet of the year two weeks ago, Selby-Tallman improved on that distance twice today. In her first throw of finals, the senior tossed a distance of 50 feet and three quarters of an inch (15.26m) which at the time was the longest shot put in Division II this season. In her second throw, Selby-Tallman outdid herself. She launched the shot 51 feet, eight and one quarter inches, breaking her own school record and breaking the facility record, as well. The mark also improved her seed for nationals. Sophomore Erin Steffens finished second in the shot with a distance of 40 feet, three inches, while Courtney Vie, Jessica Self and Emilie Miesler finished fourth, fifth and sixth in the event. One day after shattering the school record in the 5k, Kimi Shank won the mile run with a time of 5:14.77. Courtney Waltbillig finished third with a time of 5:19.10. The 4x400 relay team cruised to victory by a margin of 12 seconds winning with a time of 4:08.59. Alison Walker won the 800m with a time of 2:18.78, while Shannan Borgard finished sixth. Stacy Borgard won the 600 yard with a time of 1:32.94 and Danielle Oliver finished third in the 60m dash with a time of 8.04. Camille Brown was second in the 400m with a time of 1:03.89, while Kayla Piley finished third in the 60m hurdles. Erica Culver and Ciara Lipsey were fourth and fifth in the pole vault, both with a height of 10 feet, 11 and three quarter inches. Piley and Jessie Wood finished sixth in the high jump with a height of five feet, one half inch each. Wood and Jestine Hayes were fourth and fifth, respectively in the triple jump. In all, the women had five event winners, while the men brought home one event winner and another top collegiate performance. The Lions will be back in action when they head to Nebraska for the Husker Invitational on February 1 and 2. |
