Lions defeat Southwest Baptist, 5-4


JOPLIN (April 13) -- Missouri Southern's women's tennis team capped off its 2004-05 home schedule on Wednesday with a 5-4 victory over Southwest Baptist at the Millennium Tennis & Fitness Center.

The Lady Bearcats won two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead over Southern entering singles play. However, the Lions captured four of six matches in singles action, including each of the top three flights.

The win raises Southern's record to 6-6 overall including 3-3 in the MIAA. This weekend, Lions will get their final tune-up for the MIAA Tournament. Southern travels to Edmond, Okla. for the Central Oklahoma Broncho Tournament on Friday-Sunday (April 15-17). Then the Lions head to Topeka, Kan. for the MIAA Tournament April 22-24.
