Lions drop a tight one to Northwest
 

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Undefeated Northwest Missouri State won four of the six singles matches and took a narrow 5-4 decision Tuesday (March 21) over the Lions at the Millennium Tennis & Fitness Center.

Missouri Southern (4-6 overall) won a pair in doubles matches to start the match. Southern's No. 1 unit of senior Barb Gombosi and sophomore Michelle Hall posted an 8-5 triumph over NWMSU's Gena Lindsay and Erica Ramirez. In No. 3 doubles, Kasey Adams and Ashton Lawrence won 8-5 over Jordan Lipira and Amanda Hardie.

Gombosi and junior Kristen Meschede had victories for MSSU in singles play.

Northwest (8-0, 4-0 MIAA) entered the match ranked No. 2 in the March 10 Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings and No. 40 in the nation. Missouri Southern, which had won three straight, was ranked third in the region.

The Lions, now 1-2 in the MIAA, are next slated to host Johnson County (Kan) Community College on Saturday (March 25) at 2 p.m.
