Lions win final two matches to take conference dual from Truman

The Missouri Southern Lions took two out of three doubles matches, but needed its final two singles matches to defeat visiting Truman State University today, 5-4 at Millennium Tennis Club.

Southern (5-7, 4-2 MIAA) started off the dual with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Michelle Hall and Kristen Meschede defeated Courtney Walther and Lindsy Blair of Truman (11-4, 0-3 MIAA) 8-1, while Ashton Lawrence and Brittany Kockler defeated Jessie Krause and Taylor Warden 8-1 in No. 3 doubles.

Hall kept her undefeated singles streak going, defeating Jennifer Salmon in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 7-5. Hall is now 10-2 on the season and has won nine matches in a row, including two against top 50 ranked players.

Lawrence won her match at No. 5 singles to pull the dual even at four, defeating Krause, 6-2, 6-2. Lauren Skimbo then clinched it for the Lions with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Duyen Van.

The Lions will now finish up the regular season this Saturday at home with a match against Washburn at 9 am at Millennium. The Lady Blues are ranked 30th in the country and are a perfect 13-0 on the season, with a 4-0 mark in MIAA play. Southern sits at 4-2 in the MIAA and is in fourth place with one match before the MIAA Tournament, April 21 and 22 at St. Joseph, Mo.
