Lions drop conference dual to 25th ranked Washburn

Joplin, Mo  - The Missouri Southern Lions tennis team dropped a dual this morning to 25th ranked Washburn, 9-0. The Lions now go into the MIAA Tournament next weekend 5-8, and 4-3 in the conference.

Southern started at doubles and the team of Michelle Hall and Kristen Meschede held off the third ranked team in the region for most of the match, but fell to Washburn's tandem of Diana Goldsmith and Julie Huyberechts, 8-4. Southern's Ashton Lawrence and Brittany Kockler, as well as Carissa Knoderer and Lauren Skimbo dropped their doubles matches, 8-2 and 8-4, respectively.

Washburn (14-0, 5-0 MIAA) came into the dual undefeated and will remain that way going into the MIAA Tournament next weekend at Missouri Western. The Lady Blues swept through singles competition led by Goldsmith at No. 1.

Southern will now wait until next weekend when the MIAA Tournament pairings are announced. The Lions have clinched the fourth seed in the tournament and will wait to see who they will face in the first round.
