Lions come from behind to defeat Florida Tech, 5-4

Brittany Kockler won both in singles and doubles as the Missouri Southern tennis team came from 4-2 down to defeat Florida Tech, 5-4 today.

Southern (5-3) picked up two wins in doubles as Kockler and Kati Andersen, as well as Janelle Quesenerry and Lauren Skimbo both swept their doubles matches, 8-0.

FIT (11-8), however, won its first three singles matches and led the Lions 4-2, with just one more win needed for the match.

Kockler then responded, winning 7-5 and 6-2 to bring the Lions to within one. Skimbo won her singles match 6-2, 6-1 and Quesenberry clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

The Lions will now jump into MIAA play as they head back to Joplin. Southern will take on Fort Hays State at 3 pm on Tuesday, March 25. The match will be played in Wichita, Kan.
