Kockler named MIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week

Kansas City, Mo.  -
Missouri Southern senior tennis player Brittany Kockler has been named the MIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week as announced by the league office today.

Kockler (Troy, Ill.) went 3-1 on the week at No. 4 singles and 3-1 at No. 2 doubles as the Lions went 3-1 on their recent trip to Florida.

Kockler had two impressive wins against McMurry (6-1, 6-0) and Hastings (6-0, 6-2). Her singles match against Florida Tech turned the whole dual in the favor of the Lions. With Southern trailing 4-2 and facing elimination, Kockler won 7-5 and 6-2 to put the Lions within one point of FIT.

Southern would record wins in No. 5 and 6 singles against the Panthers to take the dual, 5-4. On the season, Kockler is 5-3 at the No. 4 singles spot and since teaming up with freshman Kati Andersen, the duo is a perfect 3-0 in doubles play.

The Lions defeated Fort Hays State today, 5-4 to open up MIAA play. They will be back in action on March 28 with a match against Arkansas-Fort Smith in Springfield at 1 pm.
