FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Topeka, Kan. - The Missouri Southern tennis team split its matches at the MIAA Tournament today, losing 5-3 to Truman in the opener, but defeating Fort Hays 5-2 in the finale. Southern (8-11) fell into the consolation bracket of the MIAA Tournament after losing to third seed Truman, 5-3. The Lions, picked up wins at No. 1 singles, as Michelle Hall defeated Jennifer Salmon, 6-0, 4-6 and 6-1. The Lions got wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles, but couldn't put the dual away. In the second match of the day, the Lions defeated Fort Hays, 5-2. Hall won again at No. 1 singles, defeating Samantha Islas, 6-1 and 6-0. Ashton Lawrence won at No. 3 7-5 and 6-0, while Lauren Skimbo picked up a win 6-4 and 6-1 at No. 5. The Lions took No. 1 and 3 doubles as the teams of Hall and Lawrence and Skimbo and Janelle Quesenberry won 8-3 and 8-2, respectively. Southern was poised to play Emporia State in the consolation finals, but due to weather pushing the finals indoors, the consolation bracket was cancelled. |
